Lab 01 - From a vague prompt to a good one
Lab 01 - From a vague prompt to a good one
Time: 30 minutes Where: Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat (Work mode) Goal: experience the difference between a vague and a structured prompt. Chapter: Writing good prompts
Task 1.1 – Trial and error (5 min)
Enter a vague prompt and keep the result open:
Summarize the situation with the supplier.
Note what is missing or wrong.
Task 1.2 – Rewrite it with the 4 parts (10 min)
In a new chat write your own prompt with Goal, Context, Source and Expectations. If you need inspiration:
Summarize the delayed delivery of sensors from SENSOTEC GmbH for the D1 WIM Prešov project.
It is for me as head of the division – tomorrow I am taking it to the CEO.
Use the e-mails from Tomáš Baláž and Klaus Berger and the transcript of the control day (/Prepis_kontrolny_den_D1_WIM).
Output: 5 bullets (what happened, impact on schedule, impact on cost, proposed options, what needs to be decided) and one closing sentence with my recommendation.
Compare with task 1.1.
Task 1.3 – Iterate (10 min)
Continue in the same chat and try at least three follow-ups:
Put options A, B and C in a table: cost, risk, impact on the customer.
What information are you missing to make the recommendation more reliable?
Rewrite it for the CEO in max. 80 words.
Task 1.4 – Save the prompt (5 min)
Save your best prompt (Save prompt icon next to the prompt, or Prompt Gallery → My prompts). You will need it in the final assignment.
Check
- My prompt from task 1.2 has all 4 parts
- Copilot says the sensors will arrive in week 45 and the estimated cost overrun is about 20 %
- I have saved at least one prompt
Tip
If the answer goes in the wrong direction, don’t start over – tell Copilot what is wrong: “No, focus only on the costs.”
